Conventional Medicine, Traditional, Western…no matter what we begin with, ultimately, a visit to a medical doctor ends with a prescription and perhaps a referral to a specialist.
What is Functional Medicine? The Functional Medicine model refers to something completely different than what we are used to in healthcare. It is a science-based approach to health issues where the goal is to get to the root cause of disease. Functional Medicine is patient-centered, not disease-focused.
For instance, understanding the communication within your body, how our brain and our gut work together with strings of constant messages going back and forth to maintain our health, is an example of Functional Medicine.
It starts with the food: We are a busy world, so preparing meals before our week begins probably isn’t a priority for most, but it could make an enormous mental and physical impact on your day at work and your kid’s day at school. Remember your mom saying, “You are what you eat!”, it’s spot on! The beginning of Functional Medicine is what we put into our bodies.
Your body can heal and even prevent chronic disease!
Maintaining a state of vitality daily instead of waiting for a disease to rear its ugly head is not only physically beneficial but also mentally as well!
Functional Medicine is all about restoring health naturally! Get back to the basics and find your alternative path to better health with Nutritionally Yours!
An example of what is functional Medicine:
Lady age 50 has an appt with me. Her symptoms are fatigue, hair loss, and brain fog. Instead of giving her something to improve focus and energy, I will look for why she is tired and has hair loss and brain fog. Comprehensive blood work showed a slow thyroid, high insulin, and low iron. Food intolerance testing showed many food reactions, which means she is most likely not absorbing her nutrients well. My protocol will include supplements for thyroid health, iron, blood sugar support, dietary guidance, and absorption support. Two weeks later, at her follow-up, she feels better, and we are on the right path for her health and healing.
Nutritionally Yours is primarily a virtual wellness clinic. We also have a location in Roswell, Ga, where we help people feel better every day.
