When I was young, I had no clue about the many benefits of intermittent Fasting for health or weight loss. Growing up and going to high school and college, many young women wanted to lose weight to look slimmer, and the topic of Fasting was never discussed. In the 1970s, weight loss pills were the only thing to consider when our appetite was strong, and we wanted to drop some weight.
When I would get ready for school, mom would be in the kitchen pouring us cereal and milk. She would always make sure we ate a full breakfast as it was the most important meal of the day, or so I thought. The only problem was, by the time I got to school, I was ready to jump back in bed because I was so tired, and my stomach hurt too.
Have you ever realized that when you eat a large breakfast and start your day, the desire to crawl back into bed and sleep again is quite strong? When I skipped breakfast due to a busy schedule, I realized that my energy and mental clarity were sky high in the morning. Interesting, this was my first consideration of the benefits of intermittent Fasting. Still, the term intermittent fasting was not known yet by many people.
I started teaching my female clients over age 40 the many benefits of intermittent Fasting. They all had questions and did not truly understand the right way to do it. And, of course, they all thought they would starve if they did not eat breakfast. Giggle, that was just not the truth.
Ever sit there and be working away at something, and you get that feeling of intense hunger for food? You say that you know you are hungry, but you have to finish the task you are working on first? Well, that hunger feeling is fantastic! When that occurs, you are burning fat from the fat stores in your body. YAY! If you do not feel hungry, you may have a more challenging time losing weight and staying in a fat-burning state.
