Hi, I am Alane. a certified, holistic nutritionist in Atlanta, Ga, and I hear you regarding your thyroid and weight concerns. I too went many years with an undiagnosed hypothyroid and it caused terrible weight gain and symptoms. Once it was properly supported, the weight dropped off and I felt fantastic! Yay! And YOU can too! I will show you how.

If we all counted how many of our friends and family are affected by thyroid and weight struggles, I’m sure very few people would say they were fine. I have noticed that thyroid and weight struggles run throughout the generations. Thyroid gland problems seem to run in families, but not everyone realizes it. When we discuss different health symptoms, we can often go back throughout the generations to notice an underactive thyroid most likely caused symptoms.

When I put together some of the top issues with the thyroid and weight struggles, here are some vital points:

  1. If there are thyroid nodules like my grandmother had and I had, there is an autoimmune disorder against the thyroid. The person may or may not also have hypothyroidism as the two conditions are different. Grandma struggled with her thyroid and weight, even though she was the queen of her gym. She loved to exercise. The problem was her food intake. Except for me, no one ever told her that she needed to adjust her diet due to having thyroid nodules. Grandma would not give up any of her favorite foods, so she could never lose the weight she wanted to lose.
  2. Mom always said I had a low body temperature when I was growing up, so it was difficult to know if I had a fever ever. Low body temperature was one of the symptoms of hypothyroidism that I had as a young girl. The other symptoms were brain fog, fatigue, dry hair, acne, and weight gain as I got older. After having two babies, I realized there was a clear thyroid and weight battle I had to win, and I did! And I love to teach people how to succeed and beat the thyroid and weight battle.
  3. It is not about TSH and the traditional thyroid range. Having “normal” thyroid range results is a good start, but this doesn’t mean that you’re tip-top and feeling great! The numbers that feel normal for one person may be the numbers that keep you feeling horrible! It’s a very personal journey. Plus, if there is a borderline hypothyroid, it DOES matter, so even if your numbers are within the so-called “normal “range, it may not be ‘normal “for YOU.

For example, in functional medicine, in Atlanta, Ga, TSH should never be higher than a 2.0, and Free T3, which is essential to make sure you are feeling and looking your best, should not be lower than a 2.8, but 3.2 is best. Borderline levels are not suitable enough for thyroid levels, affecting thyroid and weight loss efforts.

If you think you could be having a thyroid and weight battle, we can test you properly to find out!

Lack of proper thyroid support or no support can affect the thyroid and weight, making it almost impossible to achieve weight loss, despite appropriate diet and exercise. And the longer you wait to see how your thyroid is working can affect your health in other ways.

At Nutritionally Yours, we see many people with thyroid disorders. Once their thyroid levels are correctly supported, they lose weight and become healthy, fit, and lean.
