Weight Loss Alpharetta, GA
& Metabolic Health

If losing weight feels harder than it used to,
there may be more to consider than calories alone.

I work with women in Alpharetta and throughout Metro Atlanta who want to better understand the factors that may be affecting their weight, metabolism and overall health. Together, we can look at your nutrition, symptoms, health history, previous labs and, when appropriate, additional testing to identify areas that deserve a closer look.

Has Your Body Changed, But What Used to
Work Doesn't Anymore?

You haven’t necessarily changed what you’re eating. You’re still trying to make healthy choices. Maybe you’re even exercising more than you used to.

But the scale keeps creeping up. Weight seems to settle around your middle. You’re tired, your sleep has changed, your cravings are different, or you simply don’t feel like yourself anymore.

This is especially common for the women I see in their 40s, 50s, and beyond.

Instead of assuming you simply need to eat less or exercise more, I want to understand what changed.

Weight Gain After 40

The same approach that worked years ago may no longer produce the same results.

Belly Fat & Body Changes

Changes in body composition can occur alongside hormonal, metabolic, and lifestyle changes.

Cravings & Food Noise

Constant thoughts about food, hunger, and cravings can make weight management much more difficult.

Fatigue & Brain Fog

Feeling exhausted or mentally foggy may be another reason to look beyond the number on the scale.

Blood Sugar & Insulin Concerns

Glucose regulation and insulin resistance may influence hunger, energy, and weight.

“Normal” Labs, But You Don’t Feel Right

Your results may be within a reference range, but you’re still experiencing symptoms worth investigating.

Why Can Weight Loss Become More Difficult?

Weight loss can become more difficult when multiple factors are involved, including changes in metabolism, body composition, hormones, sleep, stress, nutrition, activity, medications, blood sugar regulation and underlying health conditions. For women in perimenopause and menopause, changes occurring during midlife may add another layer.

That’s why I don’t look at weight as an isolated problem. I look at the larger picture and help determine which factors may be relevant to you.

Weight Is One Piece of Your Metabolic Health

Your metabolism affects much more than how quickly you burn calories. It is connected with how your body uses and stores energy, regulates blood sugar, responds to hunger and fullness signals, and adapts to changes in nutrition, activity, sleep, and hormones.

For some people, metabolic concerns may occur alongside:

  • insulin resistance or blood sugar changes
  • chronic inflammation
  • hormonal changes
  • thyroid concerns
  • nutrient deficiencies
  • poor sleep
  • chronic stress
  • digestive concerns
  • changing body composition

The goal isn’t to blame one hormone, one food, or one lab result. It’s to look for patterns.

There Isn't Just One Approach to Weight Loss

Weight Loss After 40 Can Feel Different

Woman looking happy after losing weight after 40. Hormone specialist Atlanta, GA | Nutritionally Yours

For many women, the 40s and 50s bring changes they weren’t expecting.

You may notice that you’re gaining weight more easily, losing it more slowly, carrying weight differently, sleeping poorly, feeling more tired, or experiencing changes in hunger and cravings.

Perimenopause and menopause can be part of that picture, but I don’t assume every symptom is “just menopause.”

I look at the combination of your symptoms, history, nutrition, lifestyle, and available testing to help determine what may deserve attention.

Over 40 and thinking, “Why am I gaining weight when nothing has changed?”

You’re not alone.

Changes in metabolism, hormones, sleep, stress, blood sugar regulation, and body composition can all be worth considering when weight suddenly becomes more difficult to manage.

Could Testing Help Explain Why Weight Loss
Has Become More Difficult?

Testing isn’t necessary in exactly the same way for every person.

What makes sense depends on your symptoms, health history, previous results, and goals.

When appropriate, testing may help us look more closely at areas such as:

✔ Blood sugar & metabolic markers
✔ Thyroid function
✔ Hormones
✔ Cortisol/stress-related patterns
✔ Vitamins & nutrients
✔ Digestive health
✔ Other areas suggested by your symptoms/history

Already had bloodwork and were told everything looks normal?

Bring it with you. Previous results are part of the bigger picture, and we can discuss whether anything else may be worth investigating.

My Approach to Weight Loss & Metabolic Health

Untitled 400 x 400 weight loss Alpharetta,Alpharetta weight loss,weight loss Atlanta,weight loss nutritionist Atlanta GA,metabolic health

I don’t start by handing everyone the same diet.

I want to know what has been happening in your body and your life.

What changed? When did it change? How are you sleeping? How is your energy? What are your cravings like? What have you already tried? Are you experiencing digestive symptoms, hormonal changes, stress, fatigue or brain fog? What do your previous labs show?

From there, we can decide what makes sense for you.

Your plan may include nutrition changes, targeted supplementation, lifestyle recommendations, testing or coordination with other healthcare professionals when appropriate.

The goal is to stop guessing and start making decisions based on your individual picture.

What Happens When You Work With Me?

1. We Start With Your Story

Your initial appointment is approximately 45–60 minutes. We'll talk through your symptoms, history, goals, previous testing and what you've already tried.

2. We Look for Patterns

Instead of treating weight as an isolated number, I'll look at the other pieces that may be relevant to your metabolic health.

3. We Decide Whether Testing Makes Sense

You may already have useful labs. Depending on your situation, additional traditional or specialized testing may be worth discussing.

4. We Build Your Plan

Recommendations are individualized based on what we learn, not a generic program handed to everyone who wants to lose weight.

Weight Loss & Metabolic FAQs

Weight loss can become more difficult after 40 because several things may be changing at the same time, including body composition, hormones, sleep, stress, activity and metabolic health. For women, perimenopause and menopause may also influence these changes. Rather than assuming one cause, I look at your individual symptoms, history, nutrition and other relevant factors.

Menopause and the years leading up to it can be associated with changes in body composition and where fat is stored. Sleep, activity, nutrition, stress and other health factors may also contribute, which is why weight changes during midlife shouldn’t automatically be attributed to hormones alone.

Insulin resistance can affect how the body regulates blood sugar and stores energy and may occur alongside increased hunger, fatigue and difficulty managing weight. If your symptoms or history suggest blood-sugar concerns, appropriate testing can help provide more information.

Chronic stress and changes involving cortisol may influence sleep, appetite, cravings and metabolic health, but cortisol is rarely the only factor worth considering. Weight changes usually deserve a broader look at nutrition, hormones, sleep, activity, metabolic health and other potential contributors.

The appropriate tests depend on your symptoms and medical history. Depending on the situation, evaluation may include glucose and other metabolic markers, thyroid testing, nutrient status, hormones or other testing. There isn’t one universal “metabolism test” that explains every person’s difficulty losing weight.

Normal basic bloodwork doesn’t necessarily answer every question about weight, energy or metabolic health. Your symptoms, health history, nutrition, sleep, medications and previous results still matter. Reviewing the full picture can help determine whether another area deserves attention.

No. Nutritionally Yours supports different approaches to weight management. Your plan should reflect your health, preferences and goals. If you’re using or considering a prescription medication, appropriate medical oversight remains important while nutrition can continue to be part of your overall plan.

Yes. Women in their 40s, 50s and beyond are an important part of the practice, particularly when weight changes occur alongside fatigue, brain fog, sleep changes, cravings or other symptoms.
