HypothyroidWhat is Hypothyroid? Hypothyroid is a condition you may be diagnosed with when your thyroid gland slows down. This is a fairly common disorder that we see almost daily at our clinic. Your thyroid gland is located in the front, lower portion of your neck. The thyroid gland effects your metabolism which regulates your body temperature, weight loss ability, and heart rate. When your thyroid gland slows down, all of these processes slow down too along with YOU slowing down which is why most people with hypothyroid are very tired and even can feel depressed. Most traditional clinics only test your TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) level and will not do anything about your thyroid gland unless TSH is above a 4.5. Since we are a functional medicine clinic we look at “functional” levels instead of “medical” levels of thyroid hormones. We feel that if TSH is above a 1.8 and T4 and / or T3 are low then natural support may be beneficial.

Symptoms of Hypothyroid: fatigue, hair loss, thin eyebrows, weight gain and inability to lose weight, constipation, dry skin, dry hair, high cholesterol, hoarseness, depression, brain fog, painful joints etc.

We see people in our clinic that have been diagnosed with hypothyroid and others come in telling us they have all the symptoms of hypothyroid but their labs keep coming up normal. Either way we can be of assistance to you.
