If we all counted how many of our friends and family are affected by thyroid problems, I’m pretty sure there would be very few people that have absolutely zero thyroid issues!
The thyroid gland seems to rule the roost so to speak! This tiny little gland produces the hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) which both play an essential part in the way our body functions. Having “normal” range numbers is a good start, but this doesn’t mean that you’re tip-top and feeling great! The numbers that feel normal for one person may be the numbers that keep you feeling horrible! It’s a very personal journey. Plus if there is a borderline hypothyroid is DOES matter, so even if your numbers are within so-called “normal“ range, it may not be ‘normal“ for YOU. For example, TSH, in the world of functional medicine should never be higher than a 2.0 and Free T3, which is so important to make sure you are feeling your best should not be lower than a 2.8, but 3.0 is best. Borderline levels are simply not suitable enough for thyroid levels, and this can affect weight loss efforts.
If you think you could be a thyroid victim, and it is affecting your weight loss, we can test you properly to find out for sure! Lack of proper thyroid support or no support can affect weight loss, by making it almost impossible to achieve, despite proper diet and exercise. And, the longer you wait to really see how your thyroid is really working can affect weight loss more and more.
Hypothyroidism slows your metabolism significantly, causing you to burn fewer calories each day! It can also make you feel tired, achy and less likely to exercise, further reducing your metabolism and weight loss efforts. And when you’re tired you may eat more sugar and carbs for energy.
At Nutritionally Yours we see many people with thyroid conditions, and once their thyroid levels are correctly supported, they lose weight and feel better. We can help you too!
Nutritionally Yours understands it is NOT just about TSH levels being “within traditional range.” We want to make sure TSH is not even borderline hypo, and we test free and total levels of T3 and T4. Plus we look at antibodies against your thyroid. All of these levels can affect weight loss and the health of YOU and your thyroid.
Personal Thyroid Story by Alane Palmer
I too suffered from sudden weight gain accompanied by hair loss, fatigue, brain fog and what I call “total body confusion.” I went to many doctors in the area, but they kept telling me to lower my calorie intake. I was down to 900 calories a day, and weight was still creeping up. This was 20 years ago. It took me going to a thyroid class to really understand what was happening to me. The doctor was from San Diego and WOW did he help me! He reviewed what medical ranges are vs. functional ranges, plus he explained thyroid autoimmunity. I could not wait to do my blood work, properly which did show hypothyroid plus Hashimotos Thyroiditis. Once I was treated correctly the weight loss occurred, and I felt so much better! YES! I do understand how you feel, and YES I do understand what to do. Me and my staff are here to help you feel your best!
