You may be new to the idea of hair analysis testing. How reliable is it? How does it work? These are probably questions you are asking if you are considering a hair analysis test. By carefully examining your hair, you can have a good understanding of what may be going on in your body. Through hair analysis testing you can spot changes that may be occurring on a cellular level. Hair analysis testing will let you know what has been going on in the body for the last few months and you can continue to see changes occurring over long periods of time. This is a great way to get a more precise look at your health and make any necessary adjustments. This way you can ‘track’ your health improvements.
Hair analysis testing is straightforward; all you have to do is cut 1 full tablespoon of hair from the nape of your neck and send it to the lab. We provide you with the test kit and full instructions on how to accurately cut the hair and mail it to the lab. The results of the hair analysis testing typically take a couple of weeks to come back and then you will receive the report.
When you are in our clinic with one of our clinicians, they can help you determine if a hair analysis would be helpful to you. There are many different things hair analysis testing can identify. For example, we had a patient a few years ago that did hair analysis testing and her sodium/potassium levels were very high. We told her we were concerned about her blood pressure and she should have it checked. Her PCP surprised her and told her she was indeed suffering from high blood pressure. If it wasn’t for the hair analysis she may not have asked for a blood pressure test, as she is a person that does not like to go to the doctor for anything. Another example was a 16-year-old boy with ADHD. We changed his diet and there were some improvements, but not enough. A hair analysis indicated high levels of aluminum. We put him on a safe but effective metal detox and his ADHD symptoms disappeared! Heavy metal toxicity and mineral imbalances are tested for in a hair analysis.
