Autism is a general term for multiple complex disorders in brain development. These disorders are characterized by difficulties in social interactions, communication, and repetitive behaviors. Symptoms of autism s have a broad range from mental disabilities to some physical disabilities such as sleep and digestive issues. Some of those who struggle with autism present exceptional skills in music, visual arts, and math. Autism begins with early brain development, and the most obvious symptoms can be seen around ages 2-3. According to the CDC, 1 in 68 children struggle with autism, a tenfold increase over the past 40 years.
Vitamins have been shown to aid autism symptoms in multiple studies, particularly vitamin D. Vitamin D is actually less a vitamin, and more a hormone. It aids in the activation of various bodily processes and is necessary for all people – autism or no. Studies have also shown that many with autism also deal with vitamin and mineral imbalances. For whatever reason – even those on general multivitamins end up with too much of some things and too little of others. For this reason, it is important to understand individual needs for vitamins and minerals to keep your body in its own perfect balance. At Nutritionally Yours, we recommend the Spectracell FIA Micronutrient Test and the MTHFR test to help identify your specific needs (read more about testing on vitaminmineraltest.com).
Over the years our staff at Nutritionally Yours has been able to help parents identify exactly which vitamins can help their autistic child. We have seen vitamins help the autistic population ranging from young children to teens, and even young adults. Many have shown improvement in thought processes, daily activity ability, speech, movement, socialization skills, and in the ability to go to a regular school. The vitamins given to each person with autistic symptoms are different for each.
“Alane began helping my son suffering from Asperger’s syndrome. He is showing marked improvement in motor control and reduced anxiety since he started treatment with her. Just this week, he was willing to ride down a raft water slide alone and follow the lifeguard’s instructions without confusion. For most moms this would be taken for granted, but for me it was a gift from heaven. Alane colors her analytical expertise with a mother’s instinct and compassion. The autism community is blessed to have her.” – Lisa
“Once my son was brave enough to have blood drawn, Alane did testing revealing the exact nature of his vitamin/supplement deficiencies. This was a true transformation for our son and the whole family. Within a month or so, he seemed like a neurotypical kid. I wish I would have found her earlier in my sons’ life!” – Cathy
